Three characters whose lives seem to be moving nowhere set out to build a dream, even if that dream seems perilous. This stirring portrait of three Cuban exiles and their harrowing journey across the Caribbean Sea examines the universal themes of freedom and oppression, hope and survival.
About the Playwright
 Nilo Cruz (playwright) is the author of many plays, including A Park In Our House, A Bicycle Country, Two Sisters And A Piano, Lorca In A Green Dress, Hortensia And The Museum Of Dreams, Dancing On Her Knees, Night Train To Bolina, Beauty Of The Father, A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings, and translations of The House Of Bernarda Alba and Dona Rosita, The Spinster. His plays have been produced throughout the country at numerous theatres, including The Joseph Papp Public Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival, New York Theatre Workshop, New Theatre (Coral Gables, FL), McCarter
Theatre Center (Princeton, NJ), Florida Stage, Alliance Theatre Company (Atlanta), Coconut Grove Playhouse (Miami), Magic Theatre (San Francisco), and Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He is
the recipient of numerous awards and grants, including the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Anna In The Tropics, the Alton Jones Award and the Kesselring Prize, and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, AT&T, the Kennedy Center, and the Rockefeller Foundation. Mr. Cruz is a professor at the Yale School of Drama. He resides in New York City, and is a New Dramatists alumnus.
 Ricky J. Martinez (Julio Del Valle) is Booming with
excitement to return to the boards at New Theatre after
a five-year hiatus from being an actor, as he's been
quite busy directing and producing. Many might
remember him from West Side Story (Carbonell
Nomination), King Lear/Midsummer Nights Dream
(Hindman Award), his one-person show Calbo (MLP
commission), and Univision's Sabado Gigante (150 roles); for other
credits please see the Staff page of this program or go to our website. I could never have made this return-to-stage happen without: an ardent
playwright, our accommodating crew, our dedicated designers, our
diligent stage manager, our delicious cast, our brave director, our devoted
Board of Directors, and the unconditional support in the office of Juan and
Eileen. "Millones de gracias a mi Mama, a mi Andres", and to my loyal
friends, each of who inspires me beyond words!
 Evelyn Perez (Inez) is a native of Miami, FL. and has a
BFA from Florida International University. She has
performed in numerous Theatre productions throughout
the State of Florida: Coconut Grove Playhouse, Actors
Playhouse, Gables Stage, Hollywood Playhouse, Florida
Stage, Teatro Avante, The Kravis Center and New
Theatre, to name a few. She has been active in
commercials and independent film projects, one of which
was a finalist for Project Greenlight. When not onstage, she can be found
Teaching Drama and Assistant Directing at The Miami Childrens Theater.
A Bicycle Country marks Evelyn's 5th production with New Theatre - Elliot,
A Soldier's Fugue, and the National New Play Network's Rolling World
Premieres of For Better..., 26 Miles and recently in the World Premiere of
Property Line.
 Charles Sothers (Pepe) is delighted to return to New Theatre after making his debut in A Streetcar Named Desire last season and Henry V this season. Some past shows include How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (J.B. Biggley), Damn Yankees (Rocky), A Christmas Carol (Scrooge), Guys and Dolls (Big Jule), West Side Story (Bernardo), The Zoo Story (Peter), King Lear (Duke of Albany) and Fiddler on the Roof (Sasha/Bottle Dancer). Other works include performances for the Florida Grand Opera, voice over work and children's musical
fairytales with Roxy Productions.
 Steven A. Chambers (Director) is Literary Manager at THE NEW, where he previously directed Twain & Shaw Do Lunch, Jack Goes Boating and appeared in Fill Our Mouths, Equus and A Streetcar Named Desire. Last year, he adapted and directed a portion of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream which THE NEW produced in partnership with the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center as part of the All Kids Included Festival. Locally, Steven has worked with Broward Stage Door, Footlights, Inc., Sol Theatre Project and Key West Fringe, among others, and the Public Theatre of South Florida, where he was the Associate Artistic Director.
 Jerry Jensen (Production Stage Manager) continues stage managing this season's premieres: Henry V, Twain and Shaw Do Lunch and Edith Can Shoot Things... and Hit Them, and now Property Line, working again with director Ricky J. Martinez. A man of many theatrical stripes, Jerry has himself directed South Florida shows: The Lion in Winter, A Thousand Clowns, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Biloxi Blues, All The Great Books (Abridged), Say You Love Satan, 2 Boys in a Bed..., The Cocktail Hour, The Dining Room, and Rumors. As Executive Director of the Wichita Center for the Arts, he oversaw the Midwest Premieres of Stephen Schwartz's Rags and Children of Eden and the World Premiere of the eventual Broadway musical, Jane Eyre. As an actor, Jerry's appeared in over 60 shows, most recently: 1776 and Footloose (Actors' Playhouse), Doubt (Main Street), The Normal Heart (Public), Bent and The Sisters Rosensweig (Rising Action), The Houseboy (Empire Stage) and Zoo Story (Edge).
