Nancy Cooper
Nancy Cooper was born in Hartford and grew up on a 25-acre farm in the small town of Chester, Connecticut. After moving to Miami in the early 70s, she received a full scholarship to the University of Miami, graduating summa cum laude with dual degrees in English Literature and Creative Writing.
While at UM, she attended graduate classes in short story and novel writing with Nobel Laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer and wrote a play which was enacted on campus at the Ring Theater. About why she joined the board, she says, "Listening to actors mouth your words, tell your story, is breathtaking. It's like watching magic. Helping New Theatre get what it needs to make magic is my pleasure."
Nancy began a career in advertising and marketing as a copywriter and creative director before accepting management positions at Avanti Case Hoyt, Miami Herald/el Nuevo Herald, AutoNation, Mortgage.com and most recently, Carnival Center for the Performing Arts. In addition to working on staff for some of South Florida's most prominent companies, she has built her own marketing consulting company, Nancy Cooper Associates which she operates today.
Nancy is married to graphic designer, Rick Cooper and they live in Coconut Grove. Her only child, Francine Schieferdecker, is a physical therapist and tri-athlete and lives in Coral Gables.
