Our Exhibiting ArtistsAlexis Rivero
Alexis Rivero was born in Caracas, Venezuela where he studied Professional Make-up at Centro Latinoamericano de Creación e Investigación (Latin-American Center of Creation and Investigation) ("CECIT"). He later on became the lead make-up artist of the fourth, fifth and seventh Festivals of Penitentiary Theater celebrated at Compañia Anonima Telefono de Venezuela ("C.A.N.T.V.") in Venezuela. In addition to being the character make-up artist for "Grupo Cichon", he was also the advisor of images and make-up in the play titled "The Blue Star" at the Central University of Venezuela. Alexis was also an acting teacher and make-up artist at the first and second Theatrical Festivals for the Ministry of Education. He also participated as a director and actor of the theatre while simultaneously being a member of the Director's Board of Asociación Artistica Venezolana de Teatro ("Venezuela's Theater of Artistic Association") "GRUPO 122", where he participated in more than 15 theatre and music shows. Now living in such a beautiful and diverse city like Miami, Alexis realizes all the artistic possibilities that are here for him. Being surrounded by so many different cultures, has given him the opportunity to expand his artistic abilities for all to enjoy. He takes great pride in being a part of the Miami Downtown Carnival/Arts Parades, Inc. where he is the mask designer, make-up artist and choreographer. The exhibits in this show are a representation of the work I have been doing for my entire artistic career which has spanned the last 30 years. I have been using masks, character make-up, photography, theatrical illumination, and costuming to convey the comedy and tragedy of the human condition. These creations represent the ideas embodied in my dreams. Here I am using a fusion of materials which are common in the theatrical world: canvas, paint, basic masks and a collection of costume decorations, to create surrealistic impact through the addition of color and form. I am grateful to the Board of Directors for their gracious invitation to display my work here. I would also like to extend my thanks to Carol Faber, Arlene Drexler, and Shona Mitchell for their unconditional help in the realization of this exhibition. click on artwork to enlarge
